COURSE CONTENT GUIDE

All choral music classes are structured so that skills are presented contextually and systematically, giving students a framework for growth and understanding. Intermediate choirs, 6^th and 7^th grades, focus on establishing correct vocal technique, good intonation, and preparatory skills for sight-reading music literature.

Advanced choirs, 8^th grade, allows for mixed group settings, (SATB, SSA, TBB, etc.) with maximum opportunities for varied ensemble experiences. Additional opportunities exist in community performing, competitions, festivals, and an annual spring tour.

6^th Grade Exploratory

This class will focus on establishing correct vocal technique, ear-training, good intonation, and preparatory music reading skills. The class will apply those skills to performance of music styles from around the world. This choir performs at all school concerts.

7^th Grade Concert (mixed)

This class will focus on good vocal tone production, music reading skills, ear training and applying those skills to performance of music styles from around the world and representing a review of music history. This choir performs at all school concerts. In addition to performing at all school concerts; this choir will participate in community events, festivals, Booster fundraising, an annual tour and regional contests.

8^th Grade Treble

This choir focuses on development of the young women's changing voice, while exploring a variety of music styles, developing good vocal technique and sight-singing skills as they apply to the performance of music styles from around the world and throughout history. Students will develop solo and improvisation skills in preparation for audition opportunities with NKHS choral department. In addition to performing at all school concerts; this choir participates in community events, competitions, festivals, Booster fundraising, an annual tour and regional contests.

7^th & 8^th Grade Tenor & Bass

The primary focus of this choir is to work with the vocal development needs specific to the young man's changing voice in a positive and encouraging atmosphere. Utilizing techniques specific to the male voice, this class will perform literature from popular and classical male vocal groups. Students will develop solo and improvisation skills in preparation for audition opportunities with NKHS choral department. In addition to performing at all school concerts; this choir participates in community events, competitions, festivals, Booster fundraising and an annual tour.
