2021-2022 School Year Information

resilient reopening

We are excited to have our students return to school in-person, on a regular, full-time schedule in the new school year! All schools will run on their normal daily schedule. View the school hours and calendar.

The Washington Department of Health and OSPI released updated guidance for the 2021-2022 school year on July 28, 2021. Below are important COVID-19 mitigation efforts in the current guidance for summer and the 2021-2022 school year:

  • Students, staff, volunteers and visitors must wear a face covering at school while indoors regardless of vaccination status. Exceptions for staff when children are not present is outlined in the DOH Guidance. Masks are not required outdoors, regardless of vaccination status. Masks are strongly recommended for unvaccinated individuals outdoors in crowded spaces where social distancing cannot be maintained. (Local KPHD or state mandates may supersede K-12 guidance for staff.)
  • Continue to follow ventilation, cleaning and infection control protocols, updated to follow new guidance.
  • Continue utilizing a response plan for COVID-19 infection. This includes reporting, contact tracing, and communication with staff, families and Kitsap Public Health. Daily wellness attestations will no longer be required.
  • Physical distancing of three feet between students in classroom settings to the degree possible is recommended, as long as it allows for full-time, in-person learning for all students.

North Kitsap Online Academy (NKOA)

We know that there are families that prefer an all-online option for school or may not be ready for their student to attend school in person in the coming school year. NKOA - PAL will provide online instructional offerings for these families.

NKOA - PAL will use the Parent Assisted Learning model to provide online learning for families who enroll. In this program model, students will use the Stride/FuelED learning platform and are connected to a NKSD mentor teacher. Their role is to guide parents and students through organizational and operational aspects of the online platform and are available to provide support to parents and students through email, phone calls, face-to-face, or virtual meetings as needed. Students who are enrolled in 9th through 12th grade will have an option to undertake their learning through FuelEd or Choice Academy.

If you are interested in these programs, please contact Choice Academy at (360) 396-3575 or email Principal Penny Therrien for more information.
