NK Art Teachers are Tops in the State!

We know these teachers are amazing, and now everyone else knows too!

Kingston High School art teacher James Andrews and Poulsbo Middle School art teacher Kate Ebert have been named the Secondary and Middle School Washington State Art Educators of the Year!

These prestigious awards are given out by the Washington State Art Educators Association each year to the art teachers in each category that set the example for how Visual Arts should be taught in school and are involved at the district level in curriculum development, art shows and contests, and program advocacy.

James works with art teachers throughout North Kitsap each year to recognize art across K-12 in the district at the annual Festival of the Arts each April.  Kingston High School principal Christy Cole said about James, "He is a tireless advocate of the arts, and advocated with the state legislature to get arts recognized as a core curriculum. I can't think of anyone more deserving."

In addition to inspiring students in her classroom to find their artistic voice through art, Kate is also involved with the LEO Club and Art Club, both after school programs that enhance the lives of students in our community.  Poulsbo Middle School Principal said of Kate, “Her abilities and talents with art are surpassed only by her devotion to the students in her care.”

We are all so proud of James and Kate and their continued passion and advocacy for the Arts and students in North Kitsap.
