What do I do when my email is getting full?
Before answering this, a little background is needed:

  • Every user on our Exhange system has a set amount of storage on the server. This is necessary to keep the total storage for all users low enough to allow for "realistic" backup times.
  • In truth, it's not your inbox (or even your email) that's full. Your storage space includes ALL folders in Outlook, including sent items, deleted items, calendar, tasks, contacts, etc. These are collectively referred to as your mailbox.
  • If you exceed the size limits of your mailbox, you will first receive a warning message. If your box continues to fill up, you will no longer be able to send mail until the problem is fixed. If it continues even further, you will no longer be able to send -or- receive mail until the problem is fixed.                          .
  • You generally don't need to keep everything you've ever sent, received, deleted, etc.
  • If you do need to keep older items, they can be moved off of the server and kept on your computer.  See your computer tech for help on how to do this.

Old email that you have deleted can be retrieved from our email archive.  (Link available inside NKSD network only).  See your computer tech for help on how to do this.
