The Highly Capable Program (HCP) provides instruction, activities and services that accelerate learning, and offer a unique academic challenge for young learners identified as highly capable.
At North Kitsap School District, the Highly Capable Program serves students in grades K-12. Students are identified by a multi-disciplinary team using multiple measures, criteria guidelines, and professional judgement. Refer to characteristics of highly capable students in the Parent/Guardian handbook.
Students who are identified are generally performing or having the potential to perform in the top 2 to 5 percent. The top 2 % are eligible for self-contained classes in the 3rd through 8th grade AGATE classes. Students who perform in the top 5 %, or opt out of the AGATE program, are served in the general education classroom through a student learning plan and building highly capable plan.
