Visit any Options classroom and you’re bound to see parents playing integral roles: helping kids develop reading, math, and science skills; working on sets for plays; or designing enrichment class curricula on topics ranging from anatomy and horticulture to mapping and woodworking. Parents are exptected to be visible and an absolutely invaluable part of the Options community. They are active participants who are every bit as engaged in learning as their kids are.
Above and beyond classroom time, parents devote many hours working together in monthly parent meetings and smaller operational committee meetings – steering, fundraising, enrichment classes, environment/garden, and more. Our parent group is always looking for ways to improve our program, and to find new and innovative ways to excite, inspire and challenge our students. As a side benefit, this kind of collaborative committee work serves to strengthen our community even further.
