This is the image for the news article titled Public Viewing: Middle School Science MaterialsAfter careful research by a team of teachers, NKSD is proposing to adopt new science curricula material for grades 6, 7 and 8.

The materials chosen were developed by UC Berkeley’s Lawrence Hall of Science and published by Amplify. An overview of the curriculum can be found at

This is an online/hybrid platform that mixes traditional activities with simulations and online assessments. Students can produce work both online and on paper. This rigorous curriculum uses current best practices of phenomena driven instruction, engineering activities and science seminars to meet our new state science standards (NGSS) by having students working to develop their own explanations, rather than using rote learning.

Samples of the curriculum are now available to view at the Student Support Center, 18360 NE Caldart Avenue, Poulsbo. Materials are located outside the board room and are accessible Monday - Friday from 8:00am until 4:30pm.

The science curriculum adoption will be presented to the board in April.
