Building the Plan: The Process

Focus Groups
  • On May 29 and 30, 2014, three stakeholder focus groups consisting of a total of 110 parents, community members, and staff convened for two hours each to discuss strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of North Kitsap School District.  During the meetings, participant ideas and opinions were collected, prioritized and placed into statements.
  • On May 30, 2014, four student focus groups (2 middle, 2 high school) met for one hour each to discuss strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of North Kitsap School District.  During hese meetings, the ideas and opinions from the student perspective was collected.
Data Analysis
Data
  • After all ideas and opinions were collected, the consulting group analyzed the data collected, and identified the top priority statements in each of the strength, weakness, opportunity and threat categories.
Broadened Community Input
  • The strength, weakness, opportunity and threat statements were sent to the community via online survey for broader community feedback.  The survey ran from June 11-16, 2014.  
Strategic Planning Group Work
  • June 23 and 24, 2014,  the strategic planning work group, consisting of 11 district leaders, met in two work sessions.  During these work sessions, the group reviewed the draft report, developed draft Strategic Directions, Goals, Objectives and Vision-Mission Statements.
  • Throughout the summer, the group worked to finalize Strategic Directions, Goals and Objectives Statements for Board presentation.

Going forward, action plans are being created to support the strategic directions, and School Improvement Plans are written to align with our Strategic Directions.
